The £169 Laptop – On sale 1st November

Last month PC Pro wrote a hands-on review of the Asustek Eee PC, which is their interpretation of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC).

RM Asus miniBookOn the 1st of November this year we will see RM start selling this ultra portable computer as the RM Asus miniBook in the UK.

Spec-wise they are very reasonable, it runs an Intel Celeron M ULV 900Mhz processor, a 7″ 800×480 display, 256MB or 512MB of memory, 2GB or 4GB of storage (Plus an SD card slot for increased storage or backups), integrated modem, Lan and WiFi, intgrated webcam, microphone and speakers – ideal for video conferencing or VOIP, 3 USB2 ports and even an external VGA port. There was initially a plan to have an integrated 3G option, but now it seems it is going to be a USB device instead. The device itself weighs in at under 1kg, and the battery has a claimed time of 2.5 hour.

With the price starting from only £169 (+VAT) for the 2GB 256MB model, and £199 (+VAT) for the 4GB 512MB model these are ideal for kids (and big kids of course 😉 )

If you want to take a look at it before launch on the 1st November, take a swing by the RM site for all the details.
